A shocking video has emerged from Anantapur district of Andhra Pradesh showing what appears to be a ‘trial’ and punishment by a kangaroo court.
In the video, an elderly man is seen beating up a girl and a boy, first with his hands and then with a stick.
The girl who is said to be a minor had allegedly eloped with a boy, who is related to her and is from the same village.
The runaway couple was caught and brought back to the village and was brought to the notice of the elders.

A panchayat was then held where both the girl and the boy were confronted by the elders.
As a crowd of nearly a hundred people watched on an elderly man is seen slapping, beating and even kicking the girl. He also used a stick to beat up the boy who was seated on the ground.
The incident which happened a couple of days ago came out only on Friday after the video shot by one of the onlookers was shared online.
After the video went viral, police have registered a suo moto case and booked the village elder, identified as Lingappa.

The incident in Anantapur once again shows how the parallel judicial systems of ‘village courts’ continue to operate, especially in the rural areas despite a supreme court ban on any such systems in 2011.
