Karnataka Deputy CM’s Bizarre Reason For Accidents: Not Bad Roads, But Good Roads Cause Mishaps

Ever since the Modi government introduced the amended Motor Vehicle Act which increased the penalties for traffic rule violations manifold, it had faced a lot of criticism.

One of them was that before the government starts penalising people for not wearing a helmet or seat belt or for jumping the red light, they should first look at the poor condition of the roads.

Well, it turns out the poor condition of the road are for the better of passengers. At least that is what Govind Karjol, one of the three Deputy Chief Ministers in Karnataka wants you to believe.

“Accidents don’t occur due to bad roads. They happen when roads are good and safer, that’s when accidents are more… People drive at high speeds on our roads. Accidents happen on highways when people drive at speeds above 100 kmph,” he said.

Don’t Miss

He made the comment while speaking about the amended MVA which came into effect from this month.

His comments come even as the terrible condition of the road in the state capital recently made international headlined after an artist staged a moon landing on one of the roads which were full of potholes.

Karnataka, along with several other states have already announced that it will reduce the penalties for traffic rule violators.

“Regarding the cut in the penalties for violation of traffic rules under the motor vehicle act, we will get the orders of the Gujarat government. I have instructed our officials that we will follow that order here also. Mostly in about two-three days like in Gujarat, here also we will try to cut the penalties that are high,” CM BS Yediyurappa said.
