The four men who were arrested by the Hyderabad Police for the horrific gang rape and murder of a 27-year-old veterinary doctor in the outskirts of the city last week were shot dead by the cops in an encounter.

Rapists Convicted Under POCSO Act Should Not Have Right To File Mercy Pleas: President Kovind
Addressing the National Convention on Empowerment of Women for Social Transformation in Sirohi, Rajasthan, President Kovind said child rapists should not have the right to file mercy petitions.
“Women safety is a serious issue. The attacks happening on daughters have shaken the soul of the country. Rape convicts under the POCSO Act should not have the right to file mercy petition. They do not need any such rights. This is an issue which needs to be discussed by the Parliament” he said. Read more

A 23-year-old woman who was set ablaze by five men, including two who she had filed a rape complaint against is in a critical state. According to the doctors at the Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi, her condition is extremely critical and on a ventilator.

Vodafone Idea Limited Chairman Kumar Mangalam Birla has said the company would have to shut shop if there is no support from the government. In October the Supreme Court had ordered companies Vodafone Idea to pay dues of up to Rs 92,000 crore to the department of telecommunications (DoT) in three months.
