Severe Drought May Follow Mammoth Kerala Flood, Scientists Fear More Damage

After massive floods ravaged God’s own country, Kerala, the state is struggling to cope with its aftermath. Gushing waters reduced hilly areas to debris, houses were submerged in water, cattle had to be carried in boats and snakes were forced to move out of inundated areas.

On Friday, the Kerala government decided to ascertain the biodiversity loss due to the floods that claimed almost 400 lives in the state.

Financial aid was donated by multinational corporations, governments, NGOs and common people. Fifty persons died in Kerala due to communicable diseases, a fortnight after heavy rains and flooding. While six are confirmed cases of leptospirosis, 34 are suspected leptospirosis deaths. Nine died of fever and one of dengue.
