Bulgarian appointed to senior Eurostat post
The European Commission has appointed Mariana Kotzeva of Bulgaria as deputy-director of Eurostat, the EU’s statistics office. She is scheduled to replace Marie Bohatá, a Czech, who is to retire on 1 July.
Kotseva will be the most senior Bulgarian in a civil service job in the European Commission.
She is currently a special adviser at Eurostat, a post she has held since 2012. She previously served as the head of Bulgaria’s national statistics institute and as an adviser to Bulgaria’s president.
She also advised the UN Development Programme and Serbia’s labour and employment ministry.
Kotzeva holds a doctorate from the University of National and World Economy in Sofia, where she is an associate professor, and a master’s degrees in economics and in statistics.
