Google’s concessions ‘not enough’
Commissioner says antitrust fears have not been allayed.
Joaquín Almunia, the European commissioner for competition, said yesterday (17 July) that Google needed to make better proposals to allay the European Commission’s antitrust concerns.
Google’s offer, made in April, included a pledge to differentiate its own search services more clearly from those of its rivals. This had already been criticised by Google’s competitors.
Almunia said that he had written to Eric Schmidt, Google’s chairman, to say that the company’s concessions were “not enough to overcome our concerns”.
