The most horrible moment in Chris Keyes’s life turned into something beautiful. His 6-year-old son Dominick was trick-or-treating with his twin brother and other children in their Florida neighborhood when a 3-ton pickup barreled through an intersection and struck him, carrying him 50 feet before skidding to a stop.
Keyes is still haunted by seeing his son lying in the road. He was sure the little boy was dead.
“He was unresponsive, not breathing,” he told Patch. “It was the most horrifying moment of my life.”
Dominick is recovering. His dad says it’s “amazing how quickly he healed.”
“But we worry that the biggest injuries aren’t visible on the outside,” he said. “Something like this is bound to have a big mental impact. It’s going to take a long time for him to get over this.”
Knowing it could have easily been one of their children who was injured, families are rallying around the Keyes family.

‘I Need A Kidney’: Bears Game Sign Prompts Search
Stranger things have happened — an Iowa guy’s “CollegeGameDay” sign begging for beer money ended up as a $3 million fundraiser for the University of Iowa’s children’s hospital, after all — so Marcus Edwards decided to take a chance.
The Indiana man took a homemade sign saying he was desperately in need of a kidney transplant to the Nov. 10 Chicago Bears football game at Soldier Field, hoping theTV cameras panning the stands would broadcast it nationally. That didn’t happen.
But Jessica Jenkins saw the sign. She didn’t know Edwards until they met in the stands, but was inspired to help him. She snapped a photo of him holding the sign and spread it across social media and started a crowdfunding campaign on GoFundMe, a Patch promotional partner, hoping to raise $25,000 — a fraction of the $250,000 cost of the transplant — to offset the costs of maintaining dialysis, medications and lost wages.

‘Frosty The Snowman’ Turns 50: Rankin/Bass Historian Tells All
“Frosty the Snowman” thumpety-thump-thumped into Americans’ hearts and their living rooms 50 years ago next month in a Rankin/Bass Productions television special.
Frosty has been a seasonal icon ever since. Most Americans know Jimmy Durante, who narrates the film that provided a back story to the children’s novelty tune written by Walter “Jack” Rollins. But did you know that comedian Jackie Vernon, who provides Frosty’s voice, was better known at the time for his raunchy stand-up act?

Brown Student Offers Heartfelt Message During Final Jeopardy
Brown University student Dhruv Gaur says he could have tried to figure out the answer in the Final Jeopardy round when he appeared on the brain-twisting quiz show “Jeopardy!” Instead, he shared a heartfelt message to Alex Trebek, the venerated host of the show who just shared with the contestants and audience that he was reentering treatment for pancreatic cancer.
“We were all hurting for him so badly,” Gaur said. “When Final Jeopardy came up, I could’ve tried to puzzle it together, but really, just kept thinking about Alex, and thought he should know.”
