LOS ANGELES, CA — Twenty-five years after his ex-wife was murdered, O.J. Simpson debuted a Twitter account Friday, announcing, ‘I’ve got a little getting even to do, so God bless, take care.”
The Juice’s debut on Twitter along with a new podcast about the infamous trial by murder victim Ron Goldman’s sister brings the trial of the 20th century firmly into the 21st century. Within 72 hours, the former NFLer had garnered more than 700,000 followers. And the Twittersphere was in an instant uproar. Simpson took to Twitter just two days after the anniversary of the slayings of Nicole Brown Simpson and waiter Ron Goldman, whose stabbing murders he was acquitted of in 1995. A quarter of a century later, the infamous murder case still hits a national nerve.
Many took the Juice’s followers to task, accusing them of propping up an unrepentant murderer.
Los Angeles publicist Danny Deraney had harsh words for Simpson’s followers, tweeting, “If you followed OJ Simpson on Twitter, I think you should be obligated to tell Ron Goldman and Nicole Brown’s families and tell them why you did so. In fact do that with all murdered victims families if you choose to follow a murderer on Twitter.”
Others opted for humor.
“Let’s all take a moment to be happy OJ Simpson joined Twitter and not Trump’s cabinet. It’s the little things these days,” quipped comedian Chelsea Handler
Kim Goldman, who continues to try to hold Simpson accountable for the murders, had a quick reply.
“I could think of a hundred million other things to be happy about than a double murderer joining anything … but I get your point,” Goldman tweeted back.

Simpson’s Twitter debut stole some of the thunder from Goldman who made headlines the day before with the launch of a podcast about the case.
“Confronting this part of my life is something I still need to do,” Goldman said in the “Confronting: O.J. Simpson” podcast.
“I want to confront the fear, the grief, the anger, the loss, the shame,” she said. “I want to ask questions that have never been answered, not only of O.J. Simpson, but of everyone involved, because this crime, this case, this trial has changed us forever.”
Simpson has paid almost none of the $33.5 million owed to the Brown and Goldman families in civil damages assessed to him. The 71-year-old lives in an affluent Las Vegas community, after having served about nine years in prison for armed robbery. The former NFL star and actor was part of a scheme to steal sports memorabilia from a hotel room at gunpoint. Simpson claimed the items had been stolen from him.
His Twitter debut marks his re-emergence in public life. In a 22-second video posted to Twitter Friday he promised to share “all my thoughts and opinions on just about everything.”
The account, TheRealOJ32 quickly began to trend as umbrage spread.
“Hey Twitter world, this is yours truly,” Simpson said at the start of the video. “Now coming soon to Twitter you’ll get to read all my thoughts and opinions on just about everything. Now there’s a lot of fake O.J. accounts out there, so this one, @TheRealOJ32 is the only official one so it should be a lot of fun. I’ve got a little getting even to do, so God bless, take care.”
On Sunday he tweeted again to wish his followers happy Father’s Day and to deny rumors that Khloe Kardashian is his lovechild product of an alleged affair with Kris Jenner, the wife of Simpson’s late lawyer Robert Kardashian.
