WEST HOLLYWOOD, CA – Two West Hollywood City Council members are trying to remove Donald Trump’s star from the Hollywood Walk of Fame. The Council is expected to vote Monday on whether or not they should request the Los Angeles City Council and Hollywood Chamber of Commerce to remove it.
The President’s star was unveiled in 2007 and has been vandalized multiple times, including twice when it was completely destroyed, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Mayor Pro Tempore John D’Amico and Councilmember Lindsey Horvath initiated the resolution, citing Trump’s “disturbing treatment of women and other actions that do not meet the shared values of the City of West Hollywood, the region, state, and country,” according to the agenda item for the Monday meeting.
The staff report also includes additional reasons to remove the star, including the separation of children from their parents at the border, the denial of the impacts from climate change on the world, the President’s treatment of transgendered individuals, the denial of findings from the intelligence community of Russian interference in the 2016 election, and more.
Trump’s star was most recently destroyed on July 25, when a pickaxe was used to demolish it. The suspect, who reportedly hid the axe in a guitar case, told police what he did and turned himself in to Beverly Hills police. The star is located near Hollywood Boulevard and Highland Avenue.
