UFC is getting closer to setting up C.M. Punk’s first professional MMA fight this year.
UFC president Dana White is eying UFC 199 in June as a potential debut fight for Punk.
White was quoted on Boston radio show Toucher & Rich: “The C.M. Punk fight is probably going to be in June. UFC 199 is what I’m thinking.”
Earlier this week, UFC started working toward determining Punk’s first opponent.
White announced on TSN’s “Off the Record” that 1-0 fighter Mickey Gall will have a fight at UFC 196 on February 6.
If Gall beats a fighter named Michael Jackson on the PPV prelim show, then Gall will face Punk later this year.
Gall was identified on White’s new “Looking for a Fight” video series as a potential opponent for Punk. Gall then started dismissing Punk and predicting a first round victory.
Now, Gall has to advance past Jackson to set up a fight with Punk in 2016.
