Five Vikings slotted in final region rankings

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – In the final week before the NCAA Super Region Championships, Augustana has five wrestlers ranked in the top eight of their respective weight classes when the rankings were released on Friday morning.

TJ North again leads the way, holding down the top spot in the 125-pound weight class. North is tied for the best record on the Vikings with a 26-3 mark this season, 15-0 against Division II competition.

Sean Derry and Jayd Docken each own the No. 3 rankings at 184- and 197 -pounds, respectively. Derry is tied with North for Augustana’s best individual record, collecting 26 wins to just three losses. Docken suffered just his second loss of the season in the Vikings’ final meet, but he still owns a 13-2 record this year.

Morgan Engbrecht checks in at No. 7 in the 133-pound rankings, tallying a 16-11 record after making the jump to 133 pounds halfway through the season. Michael Lowman is the final wrestler ranked for the Vikings, coming in at No. 8 in the 285-pound class.

The Vikings are idle this weekend as they prepare for the NCAA Super Region 3 Championships on Feb. 28 and March 1. The top five wrestlers in each weight class will earn bids to the NCAA Championships held in Cleveland, Ohio on March 14 and 15.
