At home with her husband in Cleveland, Ohio, right in the Democratic stronghold of Cuyahoga County, Nina Turner was under no illusions that it would be an easy night for Democrats.

But even those expectations couldn’t prepare Turner for Trump’s win. She and her husband turned to one another, “shocked as hell.”

That’s when her phone started blowing up with texts from progressives and Democrats from around the country.

“It was a lot of ‘WTF’s,’ ” she recalled. “People were going crazy. There was a lot of shock and anger and folks — especially Sanders supporters that had felt cheated in the primary — expressing shock. All of those feelings bubbled up again. I was dealing with people who had been crushed.”
